YABA Investment Forum Wins Prestigious High Impact Badge of Honour

Recognised as a High Impact event we are pleased to announced that the Yorkshire Association of Business Angels investment forum held at York St John University Business School last night has been awarded the prestigious Global Entrepreneurship Week UK 2011 High Impact Badge of Honour by meeting the high impact criteria including inspiring and giving confidence to entrepreneurs and helping them on their enterprise journey.

“The event was a great success with a record number of investors attending”, says General Manager Barbara Greaves “and we are absolutely delighted to have been given this award, which recognises our work within the entrepreneurial community”.

Ten companies attended the event to introduce their business proposals to the audience of more than a hundred members, entrepreneurs and guests from far and wide, who were welcomed to the university campus by YABA Chairman & Director Andrew Burton, and Dean of York St John University Business School Jackie Mathers.

Chris Manners from The Institute for Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW) began the proceedings by speaking about the launch of their new Business Advice Service which offers a free consultation to new SME clients whether they be an entrepreneur looking to start up in business or an existing business looking for financial advice.  The Service already has over 2000 accountancy firms signed up to assist businesses across England, Wales and Scotland.

Following the presentations, Barbara informed members about the success of the Commercial Evaluation Service pilot scheme recently held with Leeds Metropolitan University and The University of Hull, the aim of which was to evaluate the commercial viability of universities research & intellecutal property.  The Service which will now be rolled out across the rest of the region’s universities will utilise the valuable experience held by YABA business angels, and members who are interested in becoming involved in the process are encouraged to either complete their online YABA profile, join the Yorkshire Association of Business Angels Group on LinkedIn, or simply send YABA an up-to-date CV in order to increase their chances of being selected to be involved in the next session.
