Biotech Firm Heads for European Stage
Kirkstall Ltd, which develops innovative testing technologies at its Kroto Innovation Centre laboratories in Sheffield, is hosting a symposium to discuss new developments in human cell-based testing in Montpellier, France on May 26 and 27.
The event will cover topics from regulatory procedures to reducing the need for animal testing.
A leader in her field, professor Sheila MacNeil of the University of Sheffield, will be presenting her paper on 3D tissue engineering models for research and development.
Earlier this year, Kirkstall secured more than £100,000 of equity funding following its involvement in Grant Thornton's Investing in Health programme.
The funding has allowed Kirkstall to continue to develop its technologies and build on its reputation, helping it win its first significant three-year contract on toxicity testing.
Dr Malcolm Wilkinson, managing director of Kirkstall, said: "We've had a fantastic reponse to the event so far with more than 90 people registered to attend. The key reason there is so much interest is that there are some serious unmet needs at the moment in toxicity testing which our technologies can address.
"It is a great opportunity to bring together leading researchers from the industry and also shows the benefits of working with academic research teams and key opinion leaders in the biotechnology market place."
